Overview

Linux Automatic Security Check and Report is a GPLv3 GNU/Linux Distribution which aim is to check your network, application, configuration, etc ... security.

Knowledge less

You don't know anything to the security? Or maybe you don't want to be brainfucked by command line utilities? No problems, LASCaR is brought with its command center : an intuitive user-friendly GUI, but of course, if you like shell commands (and I know you like it too) you can also use it.

Light weight

LASCaR doesn't come with a V8 like ressources consumption desktop environment as Gnome, KDE or Looking Glass 3D. Instead, we let you the choice of :

  • starting without any GUI, suitable for experts
  • launching a customised Openbox window manager with some additions ; we are trying to make it suitable even for notebooks

Performent

Because we thought that most computers are now i686 compliant, LASCaR is compiled with 686 flags, sorry for the AMD Geode owner but ... ho yeah come on it's open source so just compile it yourself into i586 binary if you want it. And yes it's only for x86 computers now (I think a IBM compatible BIOS is necessay but should work with coreboot throught, EFI and other untested), but you can use our software on another platform too, just compile it.

Provide a fully setupable Linux distribution usable as a stand alone security checking system, in addition of our live cd and live usb.

Remember

LASCaR can't prevent you from the social engineering ! Remember that there is no patch for human stupidity !

One last thing : LASCaR isn't Backtrack nor based on it ! LASCaR is completly built from scratch using gentoo portage. The live usb is able to let you save your reports on your usb stick, and unlike Backtrack, you are not logged as root.
